A while back USB Flash drives were beginning to replace floppy discs and CD”s as the personal portability medium for digital information. Even though the first affordable devices were around 32Mb or 64Mb and cost a fortune they soon became the PC accessory to have.

Obviously they had more uses than purely carrying around your files and eventually portable applications that could run from your drive began to appear. Your USB flash drive could then be taken with you and used anywhere you had access to a PC. This was a message that did not seem to be getting around at the time. So I decided to do something about it and at the same time hone my skills in HTML, PHP and CSS.

After several weeks of sweat and tears I came up with a relatively simple design, a stack of content and a memorable name www.FlashUSBinfo.co.uk and lo and behold my first foray into the world of creating an internet website appeared for all to see.

Quite surprisingly after a few weeks I picked up a ”Best Readers Website” review in the  Webuser magazine which was pleasing for my first attempt at a ”proper” website.

So have a look and see what you think, not bad for a learner site, and if you want to know how I built it that can be the topic for another day.

In days of old this site was run purely in HTML. Flat code in a framework, with a splash of CSS to describe the presentation.

Pretty standard stuff.

But it was time for a change and update things using a proper content management systems, a good old CMS. Taking advantage of being able to update and maintain the site whenever I can get an internet connection, even by using my Android phone.

The thing is I have a fair bit of knowledge about Drupal having built sites in both versions 5 & 6, creating and plumbing in a few homegrown modules to fulfill the business process I was after at the time. To setup this site I thought Drupal may be a bit overweight and since I enjoy a challenge decided to give WordPress a try.

So over the coming months things will develop, be it for better or worse, each time you come back in the future you will probably see something different. So be prepared for changes.
